D3's Cement Leaf Sculptures

D3 went for a walk through our living classroom to come up with ideas for sculptures that we could make. We went on the computer and looked at different sculptures made from different materials. We really liked the sculptures made from cement.

Ms Bottica and Primrose brought a few cement sculptures to school to show us. They had made them! We were fascinated by the leaf sculpture. We decided we wanted to have a go at making them too!

Ms Bottica came to school to help us create our sculptures.

First, we had to find leaves around the school. Ramsey found a great silverbeet leaf in the junior school's vegetable garden.

Once we had collected all of the leaves we went back to class to get started.

Ms Bottica, Jonathon and Soheel put sand in big green crates for the leaves to dry on.

Jonathan lifted the big bag of cement powder outside. Ms Bottica poured cement powder and water in a bucket and mixed it together.

D3 thought the mixture looked like a sloppy cake mix.

We had to wear yellow gloves to protect our skin from the cement. The cement was ready and so were we! Take a look at our next post to see how they turned out.
